Jack Linden Office Hours – March 4th 2010
I got in World late this day, but setting right in. This was one of the more quiet meetings I have been to in years
[2010/03/04 11:13] Jack Linden is Online
[2010/03/04 11:14] Melodie Darwin: more likely of an audience than the facebook crowd
[2010/03/04 11:14] Sarah Nerd: I got started playing there and moved to SL
[2010/03/04 11:14] Jack Linden: Did you Sarah?
[2010/03/04 11:14] Techwolf Lupindo: Therians?
[2010/03/04 11:15] CPU Core: where?
[2010/03/04 11:15] Talarus Luan: That is sad to hear.
[2010/03/04 11:15] Jack Linden: What made you move across Sarah?
[2010/03/04 11:15] Jack Linden: If i can ask
[2010/03/04 11:15] Sarah Nerd: Yea for about 4 months prior to joining SL
[2010/03/04 11:15] Tengu Yamabushi: ‘Therians’ – refugees from There.
[2010/03/04 11:15] Sarah Nerd: More freedom here
[2010/03/04 11:15] Sarah Nerd: and no 13 year kids on voice
[2010/03/04 11:15] Talarus Luan: Not Therians as in Therianthropes. <.<
[2010/03/04 11:15] Equinox Pinion: did you approch there to lead their members to sl jack?
[2010/03/04 11:15] Tengu Yamabushi: No, Talarus.
[2010/03/04 11:16] CPU Core: where is there?
[2010/03/04 11:16] Techwolf Lupindo: Tengu, Ok. Wasn’t sure if you was refering to spirtial werewolf, theranathope.
[2010/03/04 11:16] Jack Linden: I think there are folks who are talking to them at some level.. but of course you don’t want to appear opportunistic.. just welcoming.
[2010/03/04 11:16] 2nis Sands has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:17] Jack Linden: Have any of you tried the Linden Home control panels?
[2010/03/04 11:17] Dytska Vieria: are they working now?
[2010/03/04 11:17] CPU Core: no is there a demo we can try?
[2010/03/04 11:17] Sarah Nerd: control panels?
[2010/03/04 11:17] Talarus Luan: I heard they use web-based controls.
[2010/03/04 11:17] Equinox Pinion: yes i did….didnt work
[2010/03/04 11:17] Jack Linden: Yes, we blogged yesterday about them
[2010/03/04 11:17] Zoha Boa doesn’t has a Linden home
[2010/03/04 11:17] Bronson Blackadder has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:17] Melodie Darwin: I abandoned mine before it was up
[2010/03/04 11:17] Dytska Vieria doesn’t do the blog
[2010/03/04 11:17] Sarah Nerd: I have one but haven’t done anything with it yet
[2010/03/04 11:17] CPU Core: can we try a working demo for those who dont have aLinden Home?
[2010/03/04 11:17] CPU Core: need a showhome
[2010/03/04 11:18] Jack Linden: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/land/blog/2010/03/03/customize-your-linden-home-with-our-new-control-panel
[2010/03/04 11:18] Sarah Nerd: ty
[2010/03/04 11:18] Jack Linden: CPU, good point we should set one up like that
[2010/03/04 11:18] Bronson Blackadder: sorry
[2010/03/04 11:18] Dytska Vieria: Jack, are xstreet boxes allowed on a Linden Home?
[2010/03/04 11:18] CPU Core: great
[2010/03/04 11:18] Jack Linden: Equinox, in what way didn’t it work?
[2010/03/04 11:18] CPU Core: i would love to see what they can do
[2010/03/04 11:18] Sarah Nerd: Oh that looks like a cool option
[2010/03/04 11:18] Equinox Pinion: you said you would give other users the possibilty to use that technology you used for the linden home setup…when will that be
[2010/03/04 11:19] Equinox Pinion: well….i could go to the website…when i choose a different option it crashed
[2010/03/04 11:19] Yohan Pintens: will it turn my mushroom house into a glorious castle?
[2010/03/04 11:19] Equinox Pinion: you can change the texture yohan..pretty cool if it would work
[2010/03/04 11:19] Jack Linden: Dytska, if people are sensible about it then probably okay but those regions are primarily residential
[2010/03/04 11:20] Charlene Trudeau: in strictest sense of word its a commercial item, but all it does is host the tie between here and there, so ione or two of them stacked in a corner should be fine
[2010/03/04 11:20] Jack Linden: Equinox, as soon as the control panel is at v1 (beta right now) we will package up the scripts etc and give them out
[2010/03/04 11:20] Jack Linden: The house scripts too
[2010/03/04 11:20] Equinox Pinion: ok
[2010/03/04 11:20] Jack Linden: The rezzors we developed to plant houses and trees are pretty good
[2010/03/04 11:20] Equinox Pinion: do you know how many newbies got linden homes and how many old residents
[2010/03/04 11:20] CPU Core: cool can we have full perm scripts?
[2010/03/04 11:20] Jack Linden: Yohan, hehe not quite!
[2010/03/04 11:21] 2nis Sands has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:21] Qie Niangao: oh, what about the textures, or any other content, like the Nautilus City, Bay City, Zindra content packs, when they opened?
[2010/03/04 11:21] Dytska Vieria: Is there a ‘builder’s pack’ for Linden Homes?
[2010/03/04 11:21] Melody Regent: how many ‘new’ paid memberships have you gotten due to the linden homes?
[2010/03/04 11:21] Sarah Nerd: Is it soon enough to tell?
[2010/03/04 11:22] Jack Linden: Equinox, I think roughly 30% were new premium subscribers, and the rest were Premiums that either owned no land at all, or had spare tier to use up
[2010/03/04 11:22] Opensource Obscure has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:22] Equinox Pinion: impressive
[2010/03/04 11:22] Jack Linden: Qie, the textures were made available yesterday too.
[2010/03/04 11:23] Jack Linden: See the blog post i linked to
[2010/03/04 11:23] Qie Niangao: oh, duh! thanks, Jack
[2010/03/04 11:23] Sarah Nerd: That’s not bad at all considering old users were the first to learn of it.
[2010/03/04 11:23] Jack Linden: It’s fairly impressive, yes Sarah, especially as we haven’t marketed it to anyone but existing Premiums yet
[2010/03/04 11:23] Jack Linden: We wanted to start with existing members first
[2010/03/04 11:23] Melody Regent: While we are on the subject of premium memberships, when will we start to see more benefits added be being a premium holder? Follow up: What will some of those added benefits be?
[2010/03/04 11:24] Jack Linden: Melody, we’re committed to adding more to subscription, but I don’t have anything I can announce yet.
[2010/03/04 11:24] Dytska Vieria: Jack, in the Tahoe regions, there are nice trees, I’m sure the other Linden Home regions have good things as well, any plans to put them in the Library?
[2010/03/04 11:24] Melody Regent: What is the time line on adding more benefits?
[2010/03/04 11:24] Yohan Pintens: a sharp stick in the eye or a foot on your neck, take your choice
[2010/03/04 11:25] Jack Linden: Dytska, hmm.. I don’t think we’ve talked about giving out the trees. I’ll talk to the team and see what their feeling is
[2010/03/04 11:25] Qie Niangao: Dytska, beware of the squirrel- and bird-rezzing trees, though. those little guys eat sim cycles.
[2010/03/04 11:25] CPU Core: i always wanted a tree
[2010/03/04 11:26] Sarah Nerd: free trees are a good idea
[2010/03/04 11:26] Dytska Vieria: saw them Qie, and the duck
[2010/03/04 11:26] Jack Linden: Qie, yeah we have seen that and have been removing them.
[2010/03/04 11:26] Sarah Nerd: Trees make any sl land look better
[2010/03/04 11:26] Qie Niangao: cool
[2010/03/04 11:26] Dytska Vieria: A while ago here, we talked about new trees, but nothing ever became of it.
[2010/03/04 11:26] Liisa Runo: i like the good old LL trees
[2010/03/04 11:26] Jack Linden: We also have to make some decisions about what new themes we might want to add
[2010/03/04 11:26] Qie Niangao: (they *are* cute… cuter than chickens anyway)
[2010/03/04 11:26] CPU Core: space theme/scifi
[2010/03/04 11:27] Charlene Trudeau: I hate the LL trees and often want to ban them from my estates
[2010/03/04 11:27] Liisa Runo: why you hate them?
[2010/03/04 11:27] Charlene Trudeau: try to stick with one swith windows, Jack
[2010/03/04 11:27] Jack Linden: space might be fun, but how many people would really want to live on a lunar surface?
[2010/03/04 11:27] Sarah Nerd: Aww I like the linden trees too. Only 1 prim.
[2010/03/04 11:27] Charlene Trudeau: I get claustrophobic in both the japanese one my alt has
[2010/03/04 11:27] CPU Core: You need a sim where people use skyboxes nicely spread and then the ground can be made to look nice too
[2010/03/04 11:27] Charlene Trudeau: and my cute little hobbit one
[2010/03/04 11:27] Charlene Trudeau: i”m hoping with the texture set I can make my own alpha friendly interiors
[2010/03/04 11:27] Jack Linden: CPU… so skyboxes only? ha, interesting idea
[2010/03/04 11:28] Talarus Luan: Who said anything about a Lunar surface? <.<
[2010/03/04 11:28] CPU Core: no you could mix them
[2010/03/04 11:28] Sarah Nerd: I bet people would jump all over adult linden homes
[2010/03/04 11:28] CPU Core: have some on the ground
[2010/03/04 11:28] Zoha Boa: skyboxes are anti-social for new residents
[2010/03/04 11:28] Melodie Darwin: will added themes mean additional continents then?
[2010/03/04 11:28] CPU Core: they would have a lot of space to winder and ncie views
[2010/03/04 11:28] CPU Core: wander
[2010/03/04 11:28] Stiletto Moody is Offline
[2010/03/04 11:28] CPU Core: Linden homes isnt just for new residents though
[2010/03/04 11:29] Zoha Boa: they are ment as starter homes
[2010/03/04 11:29] Jack Linden: Sarah, some Linden Homes on Zindra would be quite possible.
[2010/03/04 11:29] CPU Core: i call them holiday homes
[2010/03/04 11:30] Jack Linden: Melodie, possibly or we might find ways to add them to existing Linden Home continents (as those are not fully completed yet)
[2010/03/04 11:30] Alliez Mysterio is Online
[2010/03/04 11:30] Relic Starbrook is Offline
[2010/03/04 11:30] CPU Core: AM I LAGGED
[2010/03/04 11:31] CPU Core: oops
[2010/03/04 11:31] Charlene Trudeau: most linden homes will be outgrown over time, though
[2010/03/04 11:31] Charlene Trudeau: good starting points or home away from homes
[2010/03/04 11:31] CPU Core: i disagree.. i reacon people will always keep their linden home
[2010/03/04 11:31] Dytska Vieria: If I retire, I will live in my Linden Home
[2010/03/04 11:31] Melodie Darwin: any stats on the effect of other land sales?
[2010/03/04 11:31] Jack Linden: hehe
[2010/03/04 11:32] Mickie Mint paid you L$10000 for a parcel of land.
[2010/03/04 11:32] Qie Niangao: yeah, it will be interesting to see what happens as Nascera ages… how it will differ from the First Land areas as they got older
[2010/03/04 11:32] Melodie Darwin: *on
[2010/03/04 11:32] Talarus Luan: L$1.4/sqm at the bottom right now
[2010/03/04 11:32] Jack Linden: Melodie, you mean the impact of Linden Homes? So far they aren’t impacting anything much at all.. I think because mostly it is people using tier they hadn’t used
[2010/03/04 11:33] CPU Core: i thought they arent allowed to build outside so it will never change
[2010/03/04 11:33] Sarah Nerd: And those 1.4′s are moving slow
[2010/03/04 11:33] Liisa Runo: LL trees: only one texture, loads fast(stay in your cache most of the time cause they are all over), no alpha sort error, they dont play tricks with your cam, only one prim. ❤
[2010/03/04 11:33] Melodie Darwin: it didnt have an effect til the 2nd continent of them
[2010/03/04 11:33] Jack Linden: I expect over time that we will see people naturally outgrow them and move to other land.. though some folks may always want to keep one and just add more land elsewhere as well
[2010/03/04 11:34] Jack Linden: The next thing we’ll be looking at is ways to encourage communities on the Linden Home areas
[2010/03/04 11:34] Sarah Nerd: Like with events?
[2010/03/04 11:34] Jack Linden: Ways they can use the community hubs for example
[2010/03/04 11:34] Jack Linden: Possibly events yes
[2010/03/04 11:34] Zoha Boa: I have to go afk (rl), cu all next week
[2010/03/04 11:34] Charlene Trudeau: roflmao
[2010/03/04 11:35] Jack Linden: Bye Zoha!
[2010/03/04 11:35] Equinox Pinion: take care zoha
[2010/03/04 11:35] Charlene Trudeau: good luck, Jack
[2010/03/04 11:35] Charlene Trudeau: I’ve been trying to establish community on my estate forever
[2010/03/04 11:35] Sarah Nerd: Later Zoha
[2010/03/04 11:35] CPU Core: isnt that somethign the community themselves decide?
[2010/03/04 11:35] Zoha Boa is Offline
[2010/03/04 11:35] Charlene Trudeau: probably 5-10% want it, the rest want to go enjoy community somewhere else and come back to privacy
[2010/03/04 11:35] Jack Linden: CPU, oh they will, and should, but if there are ways we can help we should
[2010/03/04 11:35] Zoha Boa has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:35] Dytska Vieria: Jack, the Linden Homes convanent is confusing about Deeding to Group – it is not allowed, but I can Set the Linden Home land to group. Which is right or are they two different things?
[2010/03/04 11:35] CPU Core: with encourangement from blondin
[2010/03/04 11:35] Daniel Voyager has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:36] Jack Linden: Dytska, Deed and Set are different
[2010/03/04 11:36] Talarus Luan: Deed sets the ownership to the set group
[2010/03/04 11:36] Jack Linden: Charlene, as low as 10%? I’m surprised
[2010/03/04 11:37] Talarus Luan: Like this parcel here is “Set” to Linden Estate Services Group”, not Deeded, because Patch still shows as the owner.
[2010/03/04 11:37] Tengu Yamabushi: ‘Set to group’ is a legacy setting, and doesn’t often act as you’d expect. Sometimes not at all.
[2010/03/04 11:37] Dytska Vieria: I understand – it is the wording of the covanent that is confusing
[2010/03/04 11:37] Jonathan Yap has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:38] Equinox Pinion: guess it depends on the community….most of our residents join the events we have
[2010/03/04 11:38] Jack Linden: I think they are both described in the help wiki
[2010/03/04 11:38] Jack Linden: (set and deed)
[2010/03/04 11:38] Sarah Nerd: Set basic just allows you to allow others to place objects
[2010/03/04 11:39] Sarah Nerd: basically*
[2010/03/04 11:39] Sarah Nerd: but not have any access to land controls
[2010/03/04 11:40] Dytska Vieria: So, has anyone asked about 16′s today?
[2010/03/04 11:40] Talarus Luan: Not yet, was about to.
[2010/03/04 11:40] Teeple Linden has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:40] Dytska Vieria grins
[2010/03/04 11:40] Qie Niangao: it’s your turn, Dytska: go for it.
[2010/03/04 11:40] Equinox Pinion: lol
[2010/03/04 11:40] Jack Linden is braced
[2010/03/04 11:41] Jack Linden: end the suspense!
[2010/03/04 11:41] Sarah Nerd: In other words, anything new on them or are we all going to state the same things we do every week.
[2010/03/04 11:41] Talarus Luan: Hah. You know what’s coming.
The broken record questions and the broken record answers.
[2010/03/04 11:41] Qie Niangao thinks a unison recital may be more fun next week.
[2010/03/04 11:41] Sarah Nerd: yup
[2010/03/04 11:42] Sarah Nerd: Someone should write it into a song
[2010/03/04 11:42] Jack Linden: hehe, let me at least throw some numbers out.. one sec..
[2010/03/04 11:42] Dytska Vieria: Jack, what is the status of the remaining 16′s? It’s been months and the last are still getting away while others have been taken care of, and what Tal says all the time.
[2010/03/04 11:42] Melody Regent: I talked to someone that has a great use for the 16m, but he is the only one so far that has one that is a good idea.
[2010/03/04 11:42] Talarus Luan: But we’re here in the vain hope that something POSITIVE will be achieved.
[2010/03/04 11:42] RedMokum Bravin has entered the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:42] Dytska Vieria: 3600, 3210, 3100, … … …
[2010/03/04 11:42] Sarah Nerd: I bought a 16 because it was dead center in a Linden road
[2010/03/04 11:42] Alliez Mysterio is Online
[2010/03/04 11:42] Talarus Luan: Hehe
[2010/03/04 11:43] Dytska Vieria: 20 lindens on 3000!
[2010/03/04 11:43] Sarah Nerd: I put a banana on it
[2010/03/04 11:43] Jack Linden: as of last friday there were 2268 16m parcels for sale, the lowest for at least 2 years.
[2010/03/04 11:43] Qie Niangao: Mel, the guy who was doing SLipod had a nice use for them for a while, but I think his business tanked.
[2010/03/04 11:43] Talarus Luan: What about 32s?
[2010/03/04 11:43] Teeple Linden has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:43] Jack Linden: for comparison in December it was about 3000
[2010/03/04 11:43] Sarah Nerd: So they are slowly fading out?
[2010/03/04 11:44] Jack Linden: So they are still heading downwards yes
[2010/03/04 11:44] Talarus Luan: Is there any further action being taken with the remaining owners, or is it just “wait them all out” at this point?
[2010/03/04 11:44] Dytska Vieria: In Linden Time
[2010/03/04 11:44] Ardy Lay: People are buying them and putting fruit on them.
[2010/03/04 11:44] Sarah Nerd: fruit?
[2010/03/04 11:44] Jack Linden: They seem to be becoming ever harder to sell too which is probably making them less attractive
[2010/03/04 11:44] Dytska Vieria: Better than knitting stools
[2010/03/04 11:44] Melody Regent: The guy I was talking to will be doing a progressive kind of ‘story’ Kinda like the crime/adventure books I read as a kid. You read a section and at the end of the section you choose where to go next. You will have two or three choices. Depending on what the choice is, will depend on where you TP to. You can go back and TP to a differnt location if you end up dead or caught or whatever. I am dying to see him finish one
[2010/03/04 11:45] Qie Niangao: well, for pity sake, Jack, they cost L$10,000… how frickin’ fast *could* they sell?
[2010/03/04 11:46] Talarus Luan: Still nothing on that ticket I sent you, Jack. It got looked at for the first time last night.
[2010/03/04 11:47] Jack Linden: It was being looked at last week Tal (I passed on the info directly)
[2010/03/04 11:47] Talarus Luan: Shows as set to “work in progress”, though what possible work there could be I have no clue
[2010/03/04 11:47] Talarus Luan: Yeah, just going by when the actual status changed.
[2010/03/04 11:48] Jack Linden: So that’s about as much news as i have on 16s. And yes, we are continuing to push on them as much as we can. The numbers are still heading the right directlon and consistently so
[2010/03/04 11:48] Talarus Luan: What do you do, precisely, to “push” on them?
[2010/03/04 11:49] Jack Linden: the amount of Mainland for sale has been very slowly dropping too
[2010/03/04 11:49] RedMokum Bravin: Can I ask who decides whether or not a region should be adult? I’m thinking of the South Channel :-p
[2010/03/04 11:49] Jack Linden: Tal, you know i can’t talk too specifically as it’s only a couple of individuals.
[2010/03/04 11:49] Melodie Darwin: how much mainland is abandoned?
[2010/03/04 11:49] Jack Linden: RedMokum, it’s decided when the land is first put up, by the content team
[2010/03/04 11:50] Sarah Nerd: Everytime mainland is abandoned, a land dealer cries.
[2010/03/04 11:50] RedMokum Bravin: Jack: the South Channel is Linden owned and contains a Linden owned asylum where extreme violence is on display.
[2010/03/04 11:50] Jack Linden: heh Sarah
[2010/03/04 11:50] RedMokum Bravin: So I figured it should be adult land then.
[2010/03/04 11:50] RedMokum Bravin: (dismembering, royal flush of blood etc.)
[2010/03/04 11:50] Talarus Luan: It’s a lot more than a couple of individuals, unless they use a lot of alts.
[2010/03/04 11:50] Techwolf Lupindo: Jack, is that due to more and more land abanded to Gover Linden?
[2010/03/04 11:51] CPU Core: i wonder if LL makes uge profits from abandoned lands
[2010/03/04 11:51] CPU Core: huge
[2010/03/04 11:51] Jack Linden: Melodie, I don’t have that number to hand but less than 13% of Mainland parcels are set for sale.. and that has been coming down steadily
[2010/03/04 11:51] RedMokum Bravin: CPU: I try to report as much abandonded land for auction as possible :-p
[2010/03/04 11:51] Jack Linden: Techwolf, no.. the amount abandoned has been fairly consistent for a long time.
[2010/03/04 11:51] Grathum Seriman has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:51] Charlene Trudeau: cpu, by the time they find it, auction it, etc, not sure the sale price outweights the lost tier
[2010/03/04 11:52] Jack Linden: RedMokum, ahh the asylum. Is it really that gruesome?
[2010/03/04 11:52] Equinox Pinion: according to tyche 30% of mainland is owned by linden, that includes public places and abandoned land
[2010/03/04 11:52] CPU Core: well the cost in tier is much higher than the costs in running
[2010/03/04 11:52] Jack Linden: Been a while since I paid it a visit
[2010/03/04 11:52] Liisa Runo: [12:58] Governor Linden: can’t seem to pull up my land holdings
[12:58] Governor Linden: probably because it is an insanely huge number
[2010/03/04 11:52] RedMokum Bravin: Also the “proxy” approach of the Linden auction doesn’t help to make lots of money.
[2010/03/04 11:52] Jack Linden: CPU, no we don’t.. we recycle some onto the auctions, some goes to neighbours when they file tickets
[2010/03/04 11:52] Qie Niangao: well, the Gov owns lots of stuff besides abandoned land, though
[2010/03/04 11:53] Delinda Dyrssen is Online
[2010/03/04 11:53] RedMokum Bravin: The Asylum is gruesome enough to either be removed or reclassify the land I would say. Ofcourse any tickets about it would have no priority… grin.
[2010/03/04 11:55] Jack Linden: I need to go check that out again RedMokum.. maybe they added more gore to it
[2010/03/04 11:56] Dytska Vieria: Jack, what is the timeline for us mainlanders to see our script usage in the viewer?
[2010/03/04 11:56] Sarah Nerd: Time to get the little Nerds. See you all next week
[2010/03/04 11:56] RedMokum Bravin: ciao Sarah
[2010/03/04 11:56] Talarus Luan: Ciso Sarah
[2010/03/04 11:56] Talarus Luan: *Ciao
[2010/03/04 11:56] Charlene Trudeau: beta grid has 1.38 out in place and has the start of that in place
[2010/03/04 11:56] Jack Linden: Dytska, I believe the next Viewer 2 beta will include that
[2010/03/04 11:56] Sarah Nerd has left the sim.
[2010/03/04 11:56] Talarus Luan: What about Viewer 1?
[2010/03/04 11:56] Charlene Trudeau: but I think its showing *memory usage* not the script times if reports have it correct
[2010/03/04 11:56] Dytska Vieria: The 1.x viewer ?
[2010/03/04 11:56] RedMokum Bravin: At the moment we can count the amount of scripts, just that.
[2010/03/04 11:56] Charlene Trudeau: I ahven’t tried it
[2010/03/04 11:57] Jonathan Yap: I’ve been using viewer 2 on aditi which has 1.38 running and can see script usage
[2010/03/04 11:57] Charlene Trudeau: it won’t be available in the 1.x viewer to the best of my knowledge
[2010/03/04 11:57] Jack Linden: Charlene, as far as script limits go, memory is what we’re using.
[2010/03/04 11:57] Qie Niangao: oh, yeah, that reminds me: Babbage said something about needing you to okay saying what he expects will be the script memory limits… so… lots of folks waiting on those initial numbers, Jack.
[2010/03/04 11:57] Jack Linden: So it’ll show script memory for land and for the avatar
[2010/03/04 11:57] Charlene Trudeau: which may or may not adequately assess things, Jack
[2010/03/04 11:57] Talarus Luan: Oh, so we have to go to that piece of crap to use the new scripting features? O.o
[2010/03/04 11:57] Dytska Vieria: The 2.x viewer is not so good for building – camera controls are separate
[2010/03/04 11:57] Jack Linden: Qie, yes we’ve still to finalise numbers. Lots of data to wade through
[2010/03/04 11:57] Charlene Trudeau: Talarus, one person’s crap is another’s treasure, do try to remember that
[2010/03/04 11:58] Charlene Trudeau: camera controls HAVE to have an alternative for builders
[2010/03/04 11:58] Qie Niangao: right… well, we’re all holding our breaths.
[2010/03/04 11:58] Talarus Luan: Well, to THIS person, it is crap.
[2010/03/04 11:58] Qie Niangao tries to think of it as autoerotic asphyxiation
[2010/03/04 11:58] Charlene Trudeau: we fought to get their presence persistant, and separating the first two tabs was hell for all of us
[2010/03/04 11:58] Charlene Trudeau: we gathered that, Talarus
[2010/03/04 11:58] Charlene Trudeau: some battles are bet fought by using and asking for improvements, not dismissing entirely, however
[2010/03/04 11:59] RedMokum Bravin: The newly split camera controls are just horrible indeed.
[2010/03/04 11:59] Talarus Luan: That’s why it needs to go into something usable by everyone.
[2010/03/04 11:59] Dytska Vieria: I wont build with 2.x at all
[2010/03/04 11:59] Charlene Trudeau: which means using it and lots of CONSTRUCTIVE entries on JIRA and blog, not rantings and ravings
[2010/03/04 11:59] Talarus Luan: No, some battles are also best fought with dismissing entirely.
[2010/03/04 12:00] Charlene Trudeau: not if eventually you’reg onna get stuck on it or 3rd party as your only alternatives
[2010/03/04 12:00] Jack Linden:
okay folks, I have to ship out. Thanks for coming along!
[2010/03/04 12:00] Jonathan Yap: It’s possible 3rd party viewers will incorporate the script usage window
[2010/03/04 12:00] Qie Niangao: thanks Jack
[2010/03/04 12:00] Tengu Yamabushi has nothing constructive to say on the topic, so does not comment.
[2010/03/04 12:00] Jack Linden: take care all!
[2010/03/04 12:00] Talarus Luan: Well, I’d prefer 3rd party ANYTHING to that thing
[2010/03/04 12:00] Equinox Pinion: take care jack!
[2010/03/04 12:00] Dytska Vieria: Thank you Jack, nice meeting
[2010/03/04 12:00] Equinox Pinion: take care all!
[2010/03/04 12:00] Charlene Trudeau: we KNOW 2.0 is the future, so best to work at making it better now, while we have a fighting chance to make it better
[2010/03/04 12:00] Timo Daehlie has left the sim.

[2010/03/04 12:01] Talarus Luan: Snowglobe isn’t going anywhere. 3rd party viewers aren’t going anywhere.
[2010/03/04 12:01] RedMokum Bravin: Well Charlene, they could have asked us for some ideas before they threw up the entirely marketing based new UI, uh?
[2010/03/04 12:01] Dytska Vieria: I am sure 2.0 will improve
[2010/03/04 12:01] Qie Niangao: so, Tal, maybe Snowglobe? that’s based on the 2.0 branch now, but supposedly the old UI (haven’t used it for ages myself)
[2010/03/04 12:01] Liisa Runo: i heard that snowglobe is using v2 UI now, but i might be wrong
[2010/03/04 12:01] Jonathan Yap: Viewer 2 will be released in about 3 months, so I expect a lot of bug fixes but not many major changes (hopefully Search/events is addressed)
[2010/03/04 12:01] RedMokum Bravin: That said, I’ve tried the so called competitor Blue Mars… aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
[2010/03/04 12:02] Qie Niangao: i mean, won’t they put the script memory info in snowglobe? I’d think they would
[2010/03/04 12:02] Talarus Luan: That or just get back to work on working on my own. <.<
[2010/03/04 12:02] Qie Niangao: oh, meh. viewer development is for someone with a hell of a lot more patience than me.
[2010/03/04 12:02] Jonathan Yap: Liisa, Snowglobe 2.0 is using a lot of the same code as viewer 2, same UI as it
[2010/03/04 12:02] Dytska Vieria: If 1.x will be supported, then I will just use 2.0 for 2.0 features and stay with 1.x until it no longer works.
