Relay for Life – Builders Wanted

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Regent Estates has been asked to sponsor and build the New York build sim for the 2010 Clothing Fair benefiting Relay for Life.

There will be 9 sims in total, with the theme of “Fashion Cities of the World. It is our job to build, in full, the NYC sim. The Clothing Fair will play host to 130 of the top clothing designers from across Second Life.

There are 8 amazing cities and one United Nations, all coming together for one great cause. New York is one of these important sims and we are honored and thrilled to have been asked to participate in this great project.

The sim will be based on many of the current builds in our New York NYC, which has gained notoriety over the years for its tribute to the World Trade Center Towers and the tragedy of 9/11. Voted best Memorial in Second Life, we are honored to be able to give back to another worthy cause, the Relay for Life.

Included in the sim you will see the Lady herself, The Statue of Liberty, as well as the New York Library. Among other buildings planned are the Empire State Building and the famous Flatiron Building.

You may be asking yourself “why is Melody going into all this?” Well, I will say that our builders were so honored to be asked to be a part of this we couldn’t say no. But that is not the only reason: we decided to come to the community itself, and offer a way for some of you great builders to join in this worthy cause with us.

We are looking for 10 builders to join us in this endeavor. We want to offer a way for you, as a builder, not only to give back, but also to get your work out and seen by THOUSANDS of people over a 10 day period.

If you would like to be a part of this project, please continue for more information on what we need:

• NYC skyscraper style buildings
• Exterior footprint of 25x25M
• Interior space of 15 m deep x 25 m wide x 20m tall
• Minimum height of 70m
• Maximum height of 200m
• 200 prims or less (The fewer the better!!)
• No textures over 512×512 (256×256 is preferred)
• Mega prims are allowed but must be phantom
• Single front entrance
• Only the main floor must be functional – IE, no multiple floors needed
• Nothing scripted
• Completed build in a building rezzor (one can be provided if needed)
• Minimal sculpty use, if at all
• Must provide the finished build copy/mod to Melody Regent and the Relay for Life manager (to be named later)
• Interior must remain flat and neutral in color
• A full permissions copy of your logo or ‘name plate’ to be used for promotional use.

All builds must be turned in no later than January 30th. The sooner we get them, the better. You may replicate a RL building or come up with your own design. You are welcome to turn in as many entries as you wish, we will accept only the best of the designs for the limited space available.

When you turn in the build, please include a folder labeled “NYC Clothing Fair – (your name)”. In the folder we will need a copy/mod version of the building in a building rezzor, a landmark to your store/location (if available), Company logo and a notecard with any information you feel we need or about you and your company.

We will be announcing the names and store locations of all the builders that we use to the forums, in Prim Perfect and to our New York group with over 6000 members. You will also get a sign outside the build that honors you as the contributor.

We also have some ‘filler’ places available that need to be built. These are simple builds that will have nothing inside them. They are merely for looks and there to fill the space between buildings. If you want to contribute to these as well, please contact Melody Regent directly for more information.

We are thrilled to be involved in this worthy cause and to have you join us. If you have any questions at all, please send detailed questions to Melody Regent in world or email to MelodyRegent@gmail.com

Thank you again

Why Regent Estates should be your home

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

REGENT ESTATES is one of the oldest and most dependable estates in Second Life. While many others are going under, Regent Estates keeps growing. In business since 2006 we plan to be around for many more years to come.

Owned by Melody Regent and operated by the Regent staff you will enjoy the peace of mind of living in a secure, honest environment with a team that is more than staff. They are Family.

We are not the cheapest on the grid, nor will we ever be. Our rates are competitive but we plan on being here for the long haul. You can be assured you will wake up tomorrow and your land will, in fact, still be your land. We are not desperate enough to lower our rates so much so that we cannot support ourselves or put your investment at risk.

You do not need to have a premium account to own land with Regent Estates. You never have to pay taxes or VAT, just another reason why this is the place for you.

When you become a part of Regent Estates, you get a full time staff that is here to help you with all your needs. We try to make sure your SL experience is all it can be and more.

We also offer a 24 hour response guarantee.  If we do not respond to your request for help in 24 hours, you get a week free tier.

As a perk we include free Radio advertising and ad boards on our NYC sim for any clients with a business located on one of the Regent sims.

Free Adverts – http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20York%20NYC/99/72/21

All tiers, prims, land sizes…everything is located in the ABOUT LAND description so you know exactly what you are getting, no hidden charges.

We offer a little bit of everything possible in Second Life.  From quiet residential land to highly active urban sims.

October Moon, Ocean View and Cape Fear are all fully residential sims.  This is where you can go for a beautiful setting and quiet living.

$10,000L to buy and it includes the first week tier

$8,000L a week tier after that

FULL sims custom ordered for your needs. If we dont have one already on the grid, open and ready to be rented, you may order one custom, for the same price.

$25,000L down gets you a sim with the name of your choosing.

$25,000L a week tier – tier is due when sim is placed.

Full sims are usually placed in a hour or less, based on the speed LL gets it up.

When you buy a full homestead or full sim thru Regent Estates, not only do you get the backing of a full time staff, but you are assured that so long as tier is paid, your sim will be here as long as you are.

Rest assured that we will not interfer with how you run your sims.  If LL allows it, then our motto is, simply.. Your SIm, Your Rules.
The bottom line for Regent Estates is Quality Service.  This is our goal at all time.  We do not see ourselves as just another Land Empire, we see ourselves as family.  Many of our clients have been with us for YEARS.

Welcome to Regent Estates, how may we help you?

Route 66 Biker Sims- The Mother Road like no other

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

ake a Ride on the Mother Road – biker Style!

THE “MOTHER ROAD” – The very name conjures visions of motherhood and apple pie… but for motorists it epitomizes the “super-highway” that linked Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California dating back to 1926. The venerable U.S. Route 66, a Mecca for world-wide motorists, was more than a highway “it became”, according to one admirer, “an icon of free-spirited independence linking the United States across the Rocky Mountain divide to the Pacific Ocean.”

That same spirit of freedom and independence can be experienced in the virtual-world of Second Life (SL) thanks to the vision of Melody Regent and Motor Loon. Their vision of Regent Estates was spawned from their love of motorcycling and their desire to provide SL bikers with the perfect virtual simulation for cruising, racing, shopping, and living within a bikers’ utopia. To this end, Route 66 Biker Sims consist of eight locations carefully designed to provide a unique and memorable experience for SL bikers. Starting from the South, the sims are: MotorWorld, Death Valley, Route 66, Sunset Crater, Flagstaff, Twin Arrows, Mojave Desert, and MLCC Headquarters. Only Death Valley, Sunset Crater, and Twin Arrows are members-only sims requiring a one-time membership fee of L$250. Otherwise, these sims are accessible to anyone in SL regardless of age, gender, lifestyles, and are not affiliated with any particular group or motor cycle club.

Rules are simple… No cars, No Littering, No drama. So… let’s hop on the bikes of our virtual imagination and take a cruise… shall we? – Did I mention NO CARS?

MOTORWORLD http://slurl.com/secondlife/MotorWorld/132/182/21 – is a free-access sim located in the southernmost tip of the Route 66 sims. From the moment you materialize (rezz) in this sim, you quickly realize that this metaverse is a convergence point for all motorcycle lovers regardless of their taste or personal experience in SL.

The atmosphere is hospitable as residents tend to shoot the breeze, make friends, hook up for cruising the sims, show off their beautiful bikes, or impress others with their biking skills. The road is ample and suitable for opening the throttle and pushing the envelope—with a couple of hairpins turns to challenge your reflexes and control. If you like the excitement of jumping and want to impress the audience with your best imitation of Evil Knievel, try the flaming ramp in front of the spawn point. Then, if you managed not to set yourself on fire, continue down the road where you’ll find another ramp on the southeast edge. Just make sure you have enough speed to clear the ramp – otherwise, you’ll dunk yourself into the drink with more than just a bruised ego!

DEATH VALLEY http://slurl.com/secondlife/Death%Valley/108/125/125 – Is one of three members-only region located north of MotorWorld.
Best access is to teleport to MotorWorld, rezz your bike, take the road due southwest, through a couple of hairpin turns, and take a left at the bridge.

If you’re not a member of Regent Rider’s group, now is the time to become a member. For a mere L$250, all the members-only regions of Route 66 will be available for your bike cruising pleasure.
Recommend that you go slow at the sim crossing, as you may know, speed is not your friend when it comes to crossing into new sims on the SL grid. Make it across the bridge, up the hill, and a tight right turn—take note of the waterfall on your right and the mist flowing across the bridge. It’s an awesome sight and a prelude of what lies ahead. Take the bridge into the mist and go up the mountain with the option of hooking a right to a small secluded area to rest your loins or to snuggle with your significant other. After your optional stop, go up the mountain and be challenged by the steep road and tight curves. Stop at the look-out. Your reward is a magnificent view of the regions of MotorWorld, Route 66, Sunset Crater, Flagstaff, and Twin Arrows. Potent binoculars will be needed to discern Mojave Desert and MLCC Headquarters just beyond Sunset Crater but the sims are there— beckoning for you to come visit. Take it all in… Because the titillation to your senses is remarkable!

ROUTE 66 http://slurl/secondlife/Route%66/75/249/29 – is a free-access sim located north of Death Valley. As we continue our trek coming from Death Valley, take the East road through the covered bridge and proceed with caution through the sim crossing into Route 66.

You will soon notice that this sim is populated with businesses, motorcycle clubs, garages, and a few residences. Just like the real Route 66, which received many nicknames including “The Will Rogers Highway”, the road is named the “Cutter Luik Memorial Highway” in honor of a biker, businessman, and local resident that passed at the young age of 42 years (RL). Melody Regent remembers him fondly and said, “He was a very well loved member of the biker family and his loss hit a lot of people pretty hard.” After a pause to honor fallen biker friends, continue North and take in the sights by taking a circuitous path through the town. Visit the shops and don’t be shy about stopping by the motorcycle clubs (MC). Bikes and merchandise are reasonably priced and MC’s are friendly. You never know! You may be invited to join their ranks!

SUNSET CRATER http://slurl/secondlife/Sunset%Crater/252/55/27 – Is the second of three members-only sim that features a colossal volcano that dominates the landscape.

Best way to approach Sunset Crater is to take the road due North from Route 66, carefully cross the sim, and head straight towards the volcano. It’s an astounding sight as the colossus rises from the water and spews crimson lava on two of its sides and under the road. The road spirals up the sides of the volcano and comes very close to the rivers of lava gravitating towards the water. You can almost smell the smoke and feel the pavement tremble under your bike! Make your way up the igneous mountain until you reach the end of the road and a look-out terrace. Once again, treat your sight to an ample view of Mojave Desert and MLCC Headquarters to the North and catch a glimpse of Flagstaff to the East. There’s a portable toilet on the terrace so… follow the unwritten rule of Route 66— “Never pass up a gas station… or a toilet.” You never know when it’s the last chance!

Backtrack down the Sunset Crater volcano and when you reach the bottom of the road, turn left at the chicane.

FLAGSTAFF http://slurl/secondlife/Flagstaff/30/173/27 – is a free-access sim located East of Sunset Crater.

This region is much flatter than the rest of the Route 66 sims featuring smaller parcels and many merchant stores. Flagstaff is a paradise for shoppers encompassing several custom choppers shops and various skins, clothing, shoes, toys, firearms, guitars, body art, and jewelry stores. The merchandise is of high value with prices that rival the best deals in SL. But don’t take my word for it… come visit and compare for yourself. You will not be disappointed! After you finish with your shopping and exploring the nooks and crannies of Flagstaff, head East towards Twin Arrows.

TWIN ARROWS http://slurl/secondlife/Twin%Arrows/125/133/22 – Is the last of the three members-only region that currently highlights one of the greatest timed motorcycle racetracks in SL.

To find this desert jewel, find the gravel road located in the South-East quadrant of Flagstaff and take the road towards the East. Look for the giant twin arrows landmark. You can’t miss them! Be prepared to go slow at the sim crossing and be ready to experience driving on hard packed gravel. Take in the sights of a typical Arizona desert town with its one-and-only gas station and unique diner. Remember the unwritten rule of Route 66 and make sure you gas up and visit the rest room!

Keep on going up the road, which is surrounded by gigantic sand dunes and rock formations. Watch out for the tumbleweeds and continue up the road until you get to the Twin Arrows Speedway. Aside from a couple of large estates on the premises, the track occupies almost half the sim and is the main attraction of the region. If you’re the daring type, this is where you can open it up and let it rip! The track is in pristine condition and you can race on it to your heart’s content. After you have burned the rubber off your tires, go down the gravel road again and hang a right between the rock formations. At the end of the gravel road, take it slow to go through the sim crossing. Your cue of the impending boundary is the difference in texture of the reddish sand of Twin Arrows and the beige sand/dirt mix of Flagstaff.

Go between the fence on your right and the building on your left to the paved road of Flagstaff. Take a right at the mailboxes and head west. If you didn’t get a chance to visit all the shops in Flagstaff or something caught your eye and you hesitated… this is your chance to make amends. And then, onto Sunset Crater where you’ll pass through a sim crossing and travel the steel arched bridge, which will link you to Mojave Desert.

MOJAVE DESERT http://slurl/secondlife/Mojave%Desert/224/254/22 – is a free-access sim with a vastly developed commercial district comprised of several MC clubs and highly specialized merchants. This is also the sim that overlooks the main office of MLCC and Regent Estates. There’s no better place to have your business than this prime real-state location!

The merchants feature custom choppers, futuristic motorcycles, firearms, eyewear, motorcycle parts, custom painting, and a vast selection of bikers clothing items. Roam around and check the merchandise, services, and prices. There are always hidden treasures to be had. There’s even a range for target practice next to one of the firearms dealers. So…if shopping and cruising warms the cockles of your heart, warm up the bike and head to Mojave Desert. After all the cruising and shopping, take either of the two covered bridges that lead to MLCC. Slow and steady at the sim crossing. You’ll find that this technique will allow you to cross sims faster and relatively painlessly.

MLCC HEADQUARTERS http://slurl/secondlife/MLCC/214/92/23 – is a free-access sim that serves as the flagship store and workshop for Motor Loon Custom Choppers (MLCC). It is also the corporate headquarters for Regent Estates. MLCC is where the namesake custom choppers are designed, manufactured, and sold. This is where you can test drive every bike made by Motor Loon. The show room features all the shine and bling that makes MLCC what it is… the best bikes on the grid!

While the Regent Estates Headquarters is the nerve center for the rental of properties and operation of all eight sims. It is the home of a dedicated staff of individuals that work 24/7 to maintain the sims in working order. And once in a while, they have to intervene in unruly situations to ensure the well-being of all residents and patrons.

Take your time going around the massive building and try your skills at jumping the ramp located on the North side. Align yourself with the centerline, shift to highest gear, kiss yourself, and twist the throttle to its max. Make sure your insurance is up-to-date as the management is not responsible for damages to your bike or avatar! A good set of brakes are important, if you don’t want to end up in the drink. If you make it unscathed, give yourself a pat on the back, kiss yourself again, and… DO IT ALL AGAIN!

Note that on the North side there are trailers for super cheap rental and a basket ball court. Good luck finding a place though—they have a waiting list a mile long. If your backside is not too sore from all the jumping, try to shoot some hoops. Daredevils or basketball players are always in demand in SL!

After all the jumping and shooting hoops, go inside and take a lohttp://regentestatessl.com/wordpress/wp-admin/post-new.phpok. Just try not to drool over the bikes. The management gets upset about having to mop-up drool after the customers! Don’t forget to take a look at the work shop—where you can see the newest bikes in progress. After you have teased your choppers’ craving and gleaned future bikes, visit the lobby of Regent States Headquarters. You’ll be amazed at the extent of the different sims owned by Regent Estates and awestruck by the variety of sims themes. Your future nest or place of business may be winking at you. You never know! But one thing is for sure, MLCC and Regent Estates will be present on the SL grid for a long time to come.

OUR VIRTUAL CRUISE comes to an end but not before we take a moment to take an inventory of our encounter. Take note of the visual stimulation, the titillation of the senses, and the visceral experience of traveling through a virtual Route 66. The journey took us through beautiful waterfalls, steep mountains, hairpin turns, awesome volcano, myriads of shops and vendors, and most important— a rediscovery of the essence of Route 66 in a virtual environment. The fidelity of the simulation by the Regent Estates pays tribute to the Mother Road creating a Mecca for SL bikers and an icon for the free-spirit independence that we all yearn for in our Second Life. Hope to see you soon… exploring and enjoying the magnificence of the Route 66 Biker Sims.

SL & RL – not so far apart

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I fully expected this post to be totally different. I was going to babble on about the new website and features or some other things that don’t really seem relevant right now. But this post is going to be something very different than that vision.

This weekend I was told about the tragic, untimely death of Cutter Luik. This got me to thinking about relationships in Second Life and just how deep those relationships run.

I did not know Cutter very well. I will say every time I spoke to him he was a pleasure to talk to and many loved him. He spent a great deal of time in MotorWorld and rented places from me on Route 66 and Loon Lagoon. My partner Motor knew him better that I did both as a friend and a fellow biker.

I did get the chance to spend time and talk to Cutters partner, Katrinna Khandr. Someone I enjoyed speaking to a great deal. I can only image the hell she is going thru right now. Cutter will be missed so much by so many people. I would not be surprised to see a few not come back or change their avatars because of what happened. For someone so young to go so unexpectedly is devastating. The line between worlds is not blurred in this case but nearly non existent.

Cutter Luik, you will be missed.

This brings me to the relationships we have in SL. I know that I live in a protective bubble. The people I keep around me are a part of my life, both SL and RL. I talk to them every day. I know where they live and I have phone numbers and addresses. We share the ups and downs of our lives with each other. When something exciting happens I am just as excited to call my best friend as I am to log in and tell my ‘family’.

The relationships here are just as strong as they are with the people you look in the face all the time. So much so, that the line of the two worlds cross on a regular basis.

I have met a good deal of my friends from Second Life. I even got the chance to spend two weeks vacation with half my staff. In my travels for work I have had the chance to meet with people in London, Rome, Houston and New York City.

I live in what is known as the Heartland of the United States and many times people driving thru come my way. I take every chance I get to meet for coffee or dinner. Once in a while, they come over to spend the night. We even had a friend stay with us a few months until he could get on his feet. My kids know their names and even recognize the avatars on screen.

Those people that say they do not mix the two worlds are missing out. You are missing out on meeting some great people and the chance to spend time with interesting characters that will enrich your world.

I have grown because of the people that are a part of my SL. I am a better person today than I was 3 years ago because of them. This has broadened my world and given me so many things I would not have had otherwise.

Meeting and letting in this digital world is not for everyone. As a matter of fact, I would discourage letting people in as a normal course of action. But I would also say that you can’t help but get attached to the people around you, to feel the hurts and joys of those that are a part of your daily SL.

So when you hear of a disaster like we heard this weekend, don’t forget that there are just as many joys as there are hurts. Live, love, laugh, lust…when you feel it in this brightly colored pixel world, you are also feeling in that world of flesh and blood.

Stop what you are doing, go give someone a pixel hug and let them know how glad they are a part of your fleshy life.

Thank you for listening to my ramble and sharing your time with me.

Melody Regent

First Post

Friday, June 6th, 2008

So it seems we are now blogging. What should a persons first blog be about? Well, lets see…IT’s FRIDAY!!!!!!!

As is the norm in Second Life, it seems SL is down. Another Power Failure? Before I even got out bed this morning I was thinking if it is Friday…SL will be down.

Am I smart or what?

[UPDATE 07:06 am PDT] We have to close logins for a while to enable the database to process the overflow from earlier. The landstore is not accessible for the moment as well.

So what to do? Work on the website, put together some notecards and write my profile for the page. There are a few other things I can do off world. Think if I called SL they will fix it for me? HA! Me neither.

I had a nice night last night. Tornado went over the house. 70-90 mile hour winds. Hail. Rain. Lightning Bursts. Freaking out dogs and kids in bed with me. So a tired mommy today and coffee isnt kicking in yet.

Logger is working with me on skype to get some stuff on the website together.

Lets take some time to talk about goals while we are here.

* We will be pushing the marketing of the sims. We have never pushed traffic at all because those numbers mean nothing. We want buying traffic. The more that know about us the better.

* Get the sims in 1000 picks. This is how the new search is done. We need to get them in everyones pics. Even if you write over it, just having the location in the picks helps.

* Finish getting the sims filled. We now have more staff in place to help. We are also going to consider 30% commission split if people wants a 60 days sales trial. We are being selective in the products we do this with.

* Work harder to get our services side of the business going. We offer servers, Battle of the DJs, Scavenger Hunt.

* Continue to provide the quality customer service we have provided all along.

What do you want to see on the sims? What more can we do to help you, our customers and fans.

I truly want to hear from you. Please post anything and everything so we can do what we can to get the sims the best not just for us, but for SL.

welcome
