Jack Linden Office hours – June 17th, 2010
Thursday, June 17th, 2010[11:04] Jack Linden: hey everyone!
[11:04] Alexxa Despres: Hi ya Drift..Equi… Jack
[11:04] Lady Sakai: Hi Jack
[11:04] Serra Anansi: Morning, Jack! *passes some coffee*
[11:04] Alexxa Despres: Hi Ciaran
[11:04] Jack Linden: Thanks Serra… sugar too
[11:04] Jack Linden: ?
[11:05] Serra Anansi: of course!
[11:05] Jack Linden: Thanks ![]()
[11:05] Uni Ninetails: and with that my dinner is burning bbiab
[11:05] Ciaran Laval: Alexxa
[11:05] Jack Linden: How is everyone this week?
[11:05] Serra Anansi: always have some sugar for you darlin *wink*
[11:05] MystiTool HUD 1.3.0-freebie: Entering chat range: Jack Linden (6m)
[11:05] Equinox Pinion: want a cookie to it before i start jack ![]()
[11:05] Serra Anansi: .
[11:05] Lady Sakai: Id ventrue the same as last week jack ?
[11:05] Timo Yalin: Well, I have a big problem since the last 3 day. I cant go into live chat or file a ticket. It say only ”
Submit a Case
Support System Is Down
The system encountered a problem processing you request. Please try again, or check the status blog for more information.
” How I can now contact any support to help me ???
[11:06] Equinox Pinion: when did you try timo
[11:06] Jack Linden: Hey Timo.. yeah we had some support portal downtime for maintenance fixes (I think we posted tothe Status blog about that), and also a short unplanned outage too I think
[11:06] Equinox Pinion: Hi Jack, how could linden let the exchage rate for selling L$ slip to 293 yesterday? Today it is still at 273 which means 5% less revenue for us. M posted last night linden will interfear when the rates slips by 10%, are you aware that 10% is what some estates make in profit at the moment? Why was your finance team not prepared for that when the layoff announcement was made as it was clear it would have an impact on the lindex.
[11:07] Timo Yalin: It since 3 days for me and it shows in the blogs as fixed.
[11:07] Timo Yalin: Others can go into live chat or file tickets….lol
[11:07] Jack Linden: Equinox, good Q. Let me say a few things about yesterday..
[11:07] Timo Daehlie: You are right Equinox i even saw 303/1.00 us$
[11:07] Equinox Pinion: thank you
[11:07] Luci Koenkamp: now I´m listening ![]()
[11:08] Jack Linden: We have been watching that situation for a while, and there had been increasing pressure on the L$ value which we’ve seen before for example when we ended gambling. So we did expect that we’d see that pressure. As you’ll have seen, as with any market, there are ups anddowns and we had a short run on the L$ yesterday morning..
[11:09] Jack Linden: ..it settled though, as we saw the market react positively and that pressure brought it back down. Again, we’ve seen this sort of behaviour before.
[11:09] Susie Chaffe: office hour may be interupted – rollback of 1.40 to 1.38 just started
[11:09] Timo Daehlie: last year i only saw then changing between 259-261
[11:09] Serra Anansi thinks this is NOT a normal fluxuation after it being pretty stable since the end of gambling
[11:09] Timo Daehlie: who is benefitting this ?
[11:09] Slee Mayo: good, the public samdboxes are trashed with havoc7
[11:09] Ciaran Laval: Currency speculators I guess
[11:09] Talarus Luan: Did a bunch of people cash out?
[11:10] Liisa Runo: *****-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
[11:10] Jack Linden: I agree Equinox, that ideally the L$ stays within a shorter range though. But we have to expect that sometimes it will move.
[11:10] Equinox Pinion: well..if you let me pay my tier in lindens i am fine with it ![]()
[11:10] Serra Anansi: Jack, seriously, you all think this is “normal” movement?
[11:10] Driftwood Miles: the way it played out pointed to someone taking the market for a merry spin
[11:10] HimBaer Pfeffer: hi all
[11:10] stormi Capalini: i agree with Equinox
[11:10] Timo Daehlie: about 100 millions L$ .. thats 375.000 us$
[11:10] Techwolf Lupindo: Is LL putting more $L in circullation?
[11:10] Timo Yalin: lol
[11:11] Jack Linden: Oh to be clear, i am not saying this was ‘normal’, I am saying that it’s normal for markets to move and that we have seen spikes in the past
[11:11] Liisa Runo: JH
[11:11] Marianne McCann: Agreed, Driftwood
[11:11] Dennis Lagan: jack, why can we not pay the tier for our sims in Lindens, instead of USD, if you seem to trust so much in the Linden Dollar?
[11:11] Timo Daehlie: If the AEX moves like this half the world is upside down
[11:11] Equinox Pinion: 10% more or less is for some estates very important
[11:11] Liisa Runo: (sry about the mess… cat on keyboard)
[11:11] stormi Capalini: and it cost us to sell them back..
[11:11] Techwolf Lupindo: Wow timo, that is some deal. 100 million for 375 dolloars. Where can I do that?
[11:11] Dennis Lagan: without exchange rate ofcourse
[11:11] Luci Koenkamp: but not like this, will LL buy Lindens to take the pressure off?
[11:12] Jack Linden: Dennis, we discussed that a lot yesterday as you’d expect. Additional ways to deflate the market would be helpful with situations like this.. no question of that
[11:12] HimBaer Pfeffer: LL did it, AFTER the linden fallen down,.. later sells again ![]()
[11:12] Serra Anansi: L$ dont actually have value to LL – they make the money.. the only people it has vaule to is the other residents of SL… LL will NEVER buy or accept L$ as payment
[11:13] Talarus Luan: They accept L$ as payment for transfers
[11:13] Kaluura Boa: Wrong… I pay my tier in L$ for months already
[11:13] Equinox Pinion: why not serra..they got the USD from people who bought them
[11:13] Ciaran Laval: Jack let me pay tier in Linden dollars and I’ll be extremelyhappy, VAT can go away then
[11:13] Talarus Luan: and some auctions
[11:13] Uni Ninetails: Vats gonna be fun in the uk just shortly.
[11:13] Equinox Pinion: thats true ciaran
[11:13] Kaluura Boa: Nope… VAT doesn’t go away…
[11:13] Serra Anansi: kaluura, you pay tier to LL in L$?
[11:13] Luci Koenkamp: I agree with you Cieran
[11:13] Charlene Trudeau: sorry, Kaluura, you pay it by selling the L$ on the lindex and using the USD balance to pay tier, you do not directly pay with L$
[11:13] Kaluura Boa: Yep
[11:13] Serra Anansi: or to another land owner?
[11:13] Jack Linden: We have not been interfering in the market, we didn’t yesterday. However the exchange does have built in controls that cut in if the velocity of change gets too high
[11:13] Ciaran Laval: Yes it does Kaluura
[11:13] HimBaer Pfeffer: YEs CIaran, i agree, on a stable price
[11:13] Equinox Pinion: yes it does kaluura..L$ is not an official currency
[11:13] Kaluura Boa: LL always add VAT for me… Europe…
[11:13] Charlene Trudeau: its being played with again today
[11:14] Dennis Lagan: Don’t you think the whole system of Secondlife having its own currency is a little silly and complex for just a simple online service. Why can we not pay in dollars directly in world
[11:14] Timo Daehlie: but who is selling so many L$ and why jack ?
[11:14] Driftwood Miles: 10% on AVERAGE trading over 12 hours doesn’t seem really tight enough at the moment Jack ![]()
[11:14] Serra Anansi: Timo, you know he cant answer those questions
[11:14] Luci Koenkamp: panick reactions I think
[11:14] Timo Daehlie: he could try to find out Serra
[11:14] stormi Capalini: lol
[11:14] Equinox Pinion: nope luci..someone is manipulating the market to get cheap lindens
[11:14] Equinox Pinion: and we all suffer from it
[11:15] Lady Sakai: Serra, or simply people being fed up with the LL so called policies
[11:15] Jack Linden: Timo, there are a wide range of people involved in the market but the big players as you’d expect are the big inworld businesses or 3rd party exchanges
[11:15] Ishtar Roussel: Hello Jack, I wonder if you would comment on the situation with support tickets not being answered that are related to search problems. The blog announcement said there will be a fix in June, but it also stated “It doesn’t happen often, and when reported to us we can fix it.”
[11:15] Serra Anansi: no he cant, its a confientiality issue, just liek they cant talk about other accoutns with you and to find out WHY, he’s have to be a mind reader
[11:15] Ishtar Roussel: However, the report tickets are going unanswered, and not getting fixed, I myself have one that is 7 weeks old. Could we have a new blog to clarify, or please do as stated in the blog and fix the ones that are reported in tickets?
[11:15] Talarus Luan: A microtransaction currency is not out of the question for even a “simple online world”, if you could even call SL that.
[11:15] HimBaer Pfeffer: planned panic and then later someone bought the full available currency ![]()
[11:16] Marianne McCann: ‘s not just support on search suffering. A fairly complex issue I’m having with one of my plots has not been touched in a week or two
[11:16] Jack Linden: Ishtar, I can’t easily talk to the support side so much any more as I’m on Product, but that doesn’t sound right, to be waiting that long
[11:16] Serra Anansi: My question, Jack… Is there any chance that LL can look into whos dropping so much money on to the market at 5 to 6 points above the next lowest offer rate and investigate “gaming the system”?
[11:16] Jack Linden: Let me give a quick update on search..
[11:16] Talarus Luan: Heh.. ARs and support requests have regularly been ignored for weeks/months at a time for a LONG time. There’s nothing new about that.
[11:17] Marianne McCann: Ya, Tal. Had someone’s malfunctionining security orb “protecting” some of my land from a sim away. No love from ARs or tickets.
[11:17] Luci Koenkamp: I filed a new ticket about search this morning
[11:17] Luci Koenkamp: an angry one ![]()
[11:17] stormi Capalini: lol
[11:17] Marianne McCann: But not surprising, as it is a difficult issue.
[11:18] Jack Linden: We have done alot of work on fixes and improvements to the indexing.. it currently looks as though our web release next week will have those in
[11:18] Talarus Luan: Fixing a malfunctioning security orb in another sim is a “difficult issue”? O.o
[11:18] Serra Anansi: Also, Jack… there has been some talk by Desmond Shang about him working with T Linden looking into Parcel Size swinging the search results.. can you comment on that at all?
[11:18] Uni Ninetails: will that also unviel the new marketplace Jack?
[11:18] Jack Linden: So around the 23rd/24th you should see things change a little and the dropped entries bug go away
[11:18] Marianne McCann: Tal – Apparently, given no one is touching it
[11:18] Ishtar Roussel: thank you Jack
[11:19] Equinox Pinion: Jack, you said last week you will update us on the bulk purchase condition, what are they
[11:19] Jack Linden: Serra, I’m not aware of any involvement like that
[11:19] Luci Koenkamp: I hope it will Jack because it took long enough to get fixed
[11:19] Driftwood Miles: Jack…there is HUGE concern that certain Estates are being given breaks on Tier. While nobody can argue that Price breaks are normal practice in business for “bulk ” purchasing or “gold” customers. Giving discount on tier basically destroys competition in your own market and drives down standards. Tier is fundamental to the success of the market. What reassurances can you give us that are looking at this situation?
[11:19] Luci Koenkamp: if it gets fixed
[11:19] Thebeadfairy Constantine: Please stop the unoccupied vehicles on mainland sims roads, pretty please, thank you
[11:19] Jack Linden: Luci, agreed.. it’s been a tough problem.
[11:19] Serra Anansi: can I request some kind of formal response from you or another Linden on that topic in the next week?
[11:20] Luci Koenkamp: thanks Jack
[11:20] Marianne McCann: Thebeadfairy – been hit by 15 too many automated cars?
[11:20] Marianne McCann: (I know I have)
[11:20] stormi Capalini: How is it possible that one person is allowed to buy bulk with the grandfathering tier, and the rest of us that are wishing to grow can’t. Because of this very reason?
[11:20] HimBaer Pfeffer: Linden Lab will be overtaken, when they ton´t take care,.. from the animals they feed !!!!!!!!!!
[11:20] Thebeadfairy Constantine: she is sending 4 or 5 at a time
[11:20] Jack Linden: Driftwood, I think we talked about this a little last week. I’m not sure I hjave much more to add other than that I agree with the need for more transparency. So I had taken on an action for us to give info about levels ot discount for bulk buying so that everyone knows and can take advantage of that.
[11:20] Uni Ninetails: theres me zooming along in my motorbike SPANK i go headfirst over the handlebars over an unmaned car yup yup
[11:21] Thebeadfairy Constantine: get caught in my land
[11:21] Thebeadfairy Constantine: lowers sim performance
[11:21] Dennis Lagan: and where is the action jack?.
[11:21] Equinox Pinion: but when will we get that info?
[11:21] Dennis Lagan: i only see words
[11:21] Lady Sakai: Jack, that is BULK BUYING … what we want adresed is the apparently buddy system for LOWER TIERS
[11:22] Equinox Pinion: meanwhile that one estate spreads all over the grid
[11:22] stormi Capalini: yes yes!
[11:22] Marianne McCann: Ya, Uni. I would like to see some rules set on that. I mean, I’d love to see a LL sponsored SLRR train running again, etc. And there are some *good* examples out there (Qu Qis ferry in cecrotopia), but those cars, the ‘copters, etc. are taking some of the fun out of travel
[11:22] Uni Ninetails: favouritism.
[11:22] Jack Linden: stormi, it’s not accurate to say that one person can do X. The fact is that as with any business the largest customers *or* the largest prospects do sometimes get different treatment. If you came to us and wanted to discuss buying 100 regions in one go – we would have that conversation, of course we would.
[11:22] Uni Ninetails: Marianne: yeah a stardised supported transit system would be nice
[11:23] Equinox Pinion: thats not true jack…i asked that in January…the answer was no
[11:23] Jack Linden: The problem is more that we haven’t been stating that openly enough, or giving guidance on what the possible bulk purchase options might be
[11:23] Jack Linden: Hence me taking that action on
[11:23] Driftwood Miles: Jack is there no understanding in LL that giving anyone TIER breaks is destructive to your own product??
[11:23] Dennis Lagan: jack, you know that your nose is getting longer. an email to lindenlab gets a response as unclear as what you answer here
[11:23] Equinox Pinion: i can forward you the email i made
[11:24] Driftwood Miles: Buying sims that are very obviously uncompetitive is OUT of the question for 90% of estates
[11:24] Jack Linden: Equinox, please do! As I said, we need to be more open about this, and we will. I’ve taken that on
[11:24] Milano Ferrentino: Discounted bulk purchase prices are understandable, but if monthly tier is being discounted for some this is a much more important issue as it represents ongoing uneven treatment and estate cost structures.
[11:24] Equinox Pinion: i will do it!
[11:24] stormi Capalini: The purchase price is a one time thing. The tier is ongoing. So, if we buy in bulk and can get the grandfathering tier thats something worth looking into, Jack.
[11:25] Lorac Cleanslate: I agree Milano
[11:25] Liisa Runo: Jack, i need up to date list of g-team members for my study. Can you give me that?
[11:25] Thebeadfairy Constantine: Can we get the unoccupied cars off the roads or not?
[11:25] Marianne McCann: Lilsa – that requires there actualy be one of those
[11:25] Dennis Lagan: jack, transparency is not reached trough emails, but in a blog post or wiki.
[11:25] Thebeadfairy Constantine: Its spam on wheels
[11:25] Driftwood Miles: I don’t care if the discount for a large bulk buy is 0 Purchase cost…but if it is tier….I’m out
[11:25] Whitestag Gothly: Jack what will it do to 125 teir new HS when they are still hitting the grid at 95?
[11:25] Jack Linden: Well, once we’ve had a chance to put some info and guidance out about bulk buying – then we can discuss the finer details again here. I’d just ask for a little time to get that agreed and out in the open
[11:26] Thebeadfairy Constantine: You know its going to turn into ads on wheels
[11:26] Equinox Pinion: agree drift
[11:26] Ciaran Laval: The silly thing about Homestead pricing is that there are others who would buy if tier were USD$95
[11:26] Uni Ninetails: jack with the number of HS’s your cramming into a server now youd get conglomerates banding together to bulk buy, then divi up on the sims for the tier. YOUD make good ongoing moneys.
[11:26] Marianne McCann: What thebearfairy saidd. The automated cars are an issue.
[11:26] Jack Linden: Thebeadfairy you want abandoned cars removed from roads? Is this Linden roadway that doesn’t have autoreturn set?
[11:26] stormi Capalini: Yes, I am one of them, Ciaran. I have no problem renting them for the 95 USD tier. But no way the 125. So my estate is at a stand still.
[11:26] Marianne McCann: They’re not abandoned
[11:26] Lady Sakai: JAck .. for petes sake .. we are not concerned about the PURCHASE PRICE .. we are concerned about the TIER PRICE …. why do you hammer on and on about the Pruchase price ???
[11:26] Equinox Pinion: time is critical jack…..that one estate is over taking the market and we cannot grow
[11:26] Driftwood Miles: it is hard enough to compete with all that is being thrown at us without knowing that we have no chance on tier…good luck with that!
[11:26] Thebeadfairy Constantine: no hers are unaffected
[11:27] Thebeadfairy Constantine: and just SPAM on wheels
[11:27] Marianne McCann: They’re automated, owned by one owner, and running along all the SL roadways
[11:27] Marianne McCann: Scripted to avoid autoreturn, etc
[11:27] Thebeadfairy Constantine: I’ve AR’d it to death
[11:27] Marianne McCann: There’s some ‘copters that do the same basic trick
[11:27] Opensource Obscure: and how do they spam ?
[11:28] stormi Capalini: We are drowning here, Jaci..
[11:28] stormi Capalini: Jack*
[11:28] Jack Linden: Lady, i don’t recall saying purchase price – i’m not just talking about that. But I’m not going to throw out numbers here – I will make sure that we come back and talk about what we’re able to offer
[11:28] Uni Ninetails: waste of resources wtf the point of unmaned vehicles should be a res point, person hops on, they hop of or crash poof gone.
[11:28] Pamela Galli: Jack is there a separate Commerce Team any more that will be holding OHs?
[11:28] Marianne McCann: Uni – UI agree. them being “on demand” would solve all that
[11:28] Lady Sakai: yes you did Jack …. dont make me go back and copy / paste it .. I tend to crashe enought as is !!
[11:28] Whitestag Gothly: Jack if your putting 95s on the market still and not going to standardize to 125 whats the point, benefit or prifit in buying a 125????
[11:29] Driftwood Miles: Jack you called Equi Dastardly last week for the mere suggestion that you were allowing one estate to take over the grid. Well that may not be your stated policy but it is what tyour policies are doing!
[11:29] Dennis Lagan: jack, you already did it before with a certain big player, so you perfectly know what this numbers are. no need to see what you can do.
[11:29] Jack Linden: Pamela, there is a commerce team. As you know we had a difficult week last week, and so we’re busy organising ourselves to make sure we can keep pushing forward. The commerce team is a strong team and has great velocity. I do not know their plans re, office hours but i’ll raise that with them
[11:30] Alexxa Despres: LL says they want us to grow….but is it ‘us’ or the very few. We can’t grow when the the grid is slathered with new hometeads coming on at 95 USD . And by just ONE land owner.
[11:30] Equinox Pinion: how do you think we can compite with them jack?
[11:30] Lady Sakai: Jack STRAIGTH ANSWER her please … will you continue with giving GF out to certain Estates YES or NO … simple, eh?
[11:30] Driftwood Miles: we are not even 100% sure it wasn’t less than 95 such is the transparency
[11:30] Talarus Luan: About the only way for “the small people” to get larger is to innovate somehow and do their estates better than the “big fish”. Give residents something that they can’t get in the big estates.
[11:31] Equinox Pinion: yes could be even less drift..they offer them at 114 usd
[11:31] Driftwood Miles: We are already TAL
[11:31] Driftwood Miles: only so much you can do to offset
[11:31] Lorac Cleanslate: the numbers in world are also lower and with fewer numbers less to cpmpepte with the one bog chain
[11:31] Dennis Lagan: not to mention the tier reductions you give to dreamland for full sims. that part is no investigated yet by anyone.
[11:31] Lorac Cleanslate: so why grow further?
[11:31] Uni Ninetails: Tal we knock or asses out anymore well be running 72 hour days. still comes down do $$
[11:31] Timo Yalin: well I see home estates offered with full estate rights for 7500/week ….xD
[11:31] Lorac Cleanslate: no new blood no new buys
[11:31] Lady Sakai: Jack It dont take that long to tyep a Yes or No
[11:31] Driftwood Miles: Agreed Uni
[11:31] Equinox Pinion: yes uni
[11:32] Driftwood Miles: thats why the grid will end up with less quality and less choice.
[11:32] Talarus Luan: I understand.
I am a “small people”, too. ![]()
[11:32] Luci Koenkamp: Jack, wouldn´t it be a good idea to give people more sqm for the same tier, say 30% more. It would partly take care of the mainland that´s for sale and people would abandon less
[11:32] Lorac Cleanslate: its the small ones that get pounded first
[11:32] Jack Linden: Lady – if any customer, comes to us with a proposal that we feel makes sense in terms of their investment and our needs as a business then we will consider it. But I think there is a problem there, and that is the transparency required in how those deals are based. This is a problem we’ve had recently, and we need to address that because of course we want it to be as level a playing field as it can be.
[11:32] stormi Capalini: Jack, what about the 65536 sqm regions with 7500 prims? I could rent them all day..
[11:32] Equinox Pinion: it is even worse lorac…they just did that with one big estate
[11:32] Talarus Luan: What LL has to do is to make sure that us “small people” get fair representation in the market; something which they have yet failed to do adequately.
[11:32] Lorac Cleanslate: Where is Melody to day
[11:33] Lorac Cleanslate: she is right in there with the homestead hordes
[11:33] Dennis Lagan: as level??? why the hell did you do that then??
[11:33] Lorac Cleanslate: Yes Eq
[11:34] Pamela Galli: Ty, Jack — is there a head of commerce? Not sure what your position re commerce is now.
[11:34] Talarus Luan: Just like how the BP oil spill is killing small businesses in the Gulf, the broken Search funcitonality and deficient marketing systems are killing small businesses in SL.
[11:34] Driftwood Miles: this is a race to the bottom and one I cannot be a part of
[11:34] Milano Ferrentino: I strongly agree with stormi. There has long been a need for a sim half way between HS and full, with 7500 prims.
[11:34] Marianne McCann: Jack, here is a “roster” of all the automated vehicles of one person, currently running along the SL mainland roads. I believe this is what thebeadfairy and I were referring to. It also shows the scope of these devices. http://www.slfbi.com/TourBus/Roster Report.php
[11:34] Alexxa Despres: Transparency is great and yes we want that…but creating a situation which encourages a monopoly ….NOT the best way forward for the WHOLE of SL
[11:34] Jack Linden: Pamela, we are going through something of a re-org but commerce does sit within my org
[11:34] Pamela Galli: ty
[11:34] Jack Linden: So yes, this is the right venue for commerce related Qs
[11:34] Marianne McCann: http://www.slfbi.com/TourBus/Roster Report.php
[11:35] Jack Linden: Marianne, that’s helpful. Will take a look
[11:35] Equinox Pinion: Jack, you told us weeks ago you are working on a wiki page for private estates, how far is that?
[11:35] Uni Ninetails: Jack asking again side note: with the webrelease for search, will marketplace go live?
[11:35] Equinox Pinion: we still have no real advertising option
[11:36] Jack Linden: Equinox, just checking. It was due this week I believe
[11:36] Equinox Pinion: ok
[11:36] Lady Sakai: well Equi if you like our community rent out a few homes then your even more screwed
[11:36] Jack Linden: Uni, the marketplace launch is still on track, yes
[11:37] stormi Capalini: Jack, any chance or hope of a region with 7500 prims?
[11:37] Uni Ninetails: thad be a new featre dont bet on it
[11:37] Uni Ninetails: and ty Jack
[11:37] Jack Linden: stormi, probably not in Q3 – we’ll certainly consider it though
[11:37] stormi Capalini: Thank you, Jack
[11:37] Charlene Trudeau: I still want the classic homestead of 1875 prims/75 price instead of the open space crap
[11:37] Thebeadfairy Constantine: Unattended Vehicles? You did away with ad farms, NOW DO AWAY with this PLEASE
[11:37] stormi Capalini: That sounds nice too, Charlene. I could go for that
[11:38] Ciaran Laval: Open spaces are way too expensive
[11:38] Talarus Luan: Oh, those are the AnnMarie Otoole vehicle things?
[11:38] Equinox Pinion: and you cannot do anything with them
[11:38] stormi Capalini: yes I agree. The water is nice. But no way to recover the 75 USD
[11:38] Thebeadfairy Constantine: yes
[11:38] Jack Linden: Thebeadfairy, have you tried filing land support tickets for those?
[11:38] Lorac Cleanslate: Open spaces now that is another cup of rtten eggs
[11:38] Thebeadfairy Constantine: YES
[11:38] Thebeadfairy Constantine: HUNDREDS
[11:38] Talarus Luan: You can’t, Jack, they don’t stay in any one place long enough.
[11:39] Uni Ninetails: Its like the vehicular equivelent of cold calls
[11:39] Joshe Darkstone: Jack, I dont know if this has been covered before I arrived but I was told that a first fix for the search engine was due out yesterday, whcih came and went wihtout any apparent changes or comment. Whats going on with that?
[11:39] Jack Linden: hmm okay. I will follow up but that is more a support issue. That isn’t my area these days. But I will ask the team
[11:39] Talarus Luan: I am guessing they beat the autoreturn by going back and forth between sims
[11:39] Thebeadfairy Constantine: thank you smiles
[11:39] Lorac Cleanslate: I think the opens should be atached to full sims at no cost an encentive to have full sims
[11:39] Lorac Cleanslate: keep the scale even on growth
[11:39] Jack Linden: Joshe i did cover that. We’re looking at the 23rd/24th now
[11:39] Charlene Trudeau: for every x number of full regions, maybe we can earn one free open space
[11:39] Lorac Cleanslate: to give them for basically nothing but water is wasted space with no income
[11:39] Charlene Trudeau: that’d be awesome
[11:40] stormi Capalini: I agree, Lorac
[11:40] Lady Sakai: I would really second that Lorac
[11:40] Charlene Trudeau: only reason mine haven’t been handed back is my residents stepped up to pay for part of them
[11:40] Sonya Haight: ok it keeps moving further and further back, so I’ll take this a definite no its not going to be fixed
[11:40] Charlene Trudeau: enough that I could then justify the remaining expense
[11:40] Lorac Cleanslate: Encentive to grow with fulls
[11:40] Equinox Pinion: how many sims are in default where the user didnt pay the tier and are still on the grid jack?
[11:40] Ciaran Laval: I’d like the water or a forest for strolling through but not at USD$75 a month
[11:40] Lorac Cleanslate: these homesteads stunt growth
[11:40] Giancarlo Takacs: Good question Equi ![]()
[11:40] Lady Sakai: Agreed Ciaran
[11:41] Jack Linden: Okay equinox, those pages are indeed out now.. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Land_choices is one of them..
[11:41] Uni Ninetails: should be greenbelt sims that loadbalance off of a ajoining fullsim.
[11:41] Equinox Pinion: but i guess i will not get a good answer lol
[11:41] Whitestag Gothly: I ant my 125 teir homestead to click to 95 idf the market is still being flooded with them
[11:41] Equinox Pinion: wow..thanks jack…will look into them!
[11:41] Jack Linden: ..and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Renting_land is the other
[11:41] Lorac Cleanslate: but a practical number I mean keep it attainable for growth
[11:41] Joshe Darkstone: ok, thanks. Not exactly what I was hoping to hear. The search engine being broken may be good for the new marketplace, but its hella bad for those of us who have dedicated years to building in-world stores. I have already seen many stores close down over this, the response has been truly anemic.
[11:41] Jack Linden: We’ll now be startng to direct people to those pages. if you have comments on the content, let us know
[11:42] Pamela Galli: Commerce has had one OH since March. Merchants are in the dark and don’t know how to plan/prepare. We need a contact.
[11:42] Jack Linden: We’re trying to be neutral and make clear the pros and cons.
[11:42] Charlene Trudeau: you really need to make clear that since there is still a monthly usage fee that even when acquiring mainland you are NOT buying
[11:42] Charlene Trudeau: no one, including LL , does anything but LEASE land
[11:43] Equinox Pinion: lease bits you mean charlene ![]()
[11:43] Ciaran Laval: Agreed Charlene
[11:43] Equinox Pinion: second try: how many sims are in default where the user didnt pay the tier and are still on the grid jack?
[11:43] Charlene Trudeau: LL is as guilty about mis-representing that as any estate owner ever in game, and we get slapped for it all the time
[11:44] Jack Linden: Equinox, I don’t have that number to hand but in a typical week there will be a few tens of regions that are at 30 day delinquency. some of those will then recover and move out of delinquency. only a very few tend to get turned off
[11:45] Talarus Luan: Unless you’re IntLibber ![]()
[11:45] Dennis Lagan: i already know much more then what you mention from just one estate
[11:45] Jack Linden: btw, remember that you can put edits into those wikipages and the team will review them. So do get involved and help us to make them as accurate as possible
[11:46] Equinox Pinion: how will people know about the wiki pages
[11:46] Whitestag Gothly: I want to know if HS are going back to 95 or should we all start dumping the 125s???????
[11:46] Talarus Luan: So, Jack.. how about those microparcels? ![]()
[11:46] Charlene Trudeau: lol, Jack, it would require an entire rewrite when your major heading is ‘buying vs renting’
[11:46] Equinox Pinion: will you mention them on teh website
[11:46] Jack Linden: Equinox, we’ll begin to direct people to them, for example in outbound messaging or links from certain web pages
[11:47] Equinox Pinion: ok
[11:47] Slee Mayo: how’s the latest class action lawsuit over buying virtual land going?
[11:47] stormi Capalini: Jack, any idea when we will hear about the bulk offerings?
[11:47] Lorac Cleanslate: will this be a world of Homesteads with no inworldl commerce
[11:47] Jack Linden: Slee, i can’t comment on that I’m afraid
[11:47] Whitestag Gothly: I can see it comeing on this manuver
[11:48] Lady Sakai: Slee, parties cant comment on ongoing lawsuits
[11:48] Lorac Cleanslate: will there be more suits to come then
[11:48] Joshe Darkstone: anyone know the title of that lawsuit? obviously it would be published
[11:48] Talarus Luan: Not if there is a class action going on, no
[11:48] Luci Koenkamp: without inworld commerce you´ll see some land getting abandoned I´m afraid, mine included
[11:48] Lorac Cleanslate: no I can tell you first hand not published
[11:48] Jack Linden: stormi, as soon as we can.
[11:48] Slee Mayo: http://mashable.com/2010/05/03/second-life-users-file-class-action-lawsuit-over-virtual-land/
[11:48] stormi Capalini: Thank you, Jack
[11:48] Talarus Luan: You have to opt out of a class action to be able to file your own.
[11:48] Whitestag Gothly: sure they can if they can sell 95 out the backdoor while selling 125s damn they can do anything
[11:48] Lorac Cleanslate: yes they are slowly going out and yes commerce dies and so will land sales
[11:49] Talarus Luan: It’s a baseless lawsuit, and I expect them to lose bigtime over it.
[11:49] Ciaran Laval: So have you got any positive news besides wikis Jack? Something for us to look forward to?
[11:50] Luci Koenkamp: seems like LL is forgetting that inworld commerce is still the most important way to earn some money
[11:50] Dennis Lagan: Jack, you also wanted to restore the statistics page “as soon as possible”, but got a little bit postponed. that was planned for April… 2009. how far are you with that?
[11:50] Equinox Pinion: lol
[11:50] Talarus Luan: hehe
[11:50] Jack Linden: Ciaran, i think we’ll be blogging soon about Q3 and what is coming. And also we need to repeat our post of early in the year about pricing etc.
[11:50] Talarus Luan: So, Jack.. how about those microparcels? ![]()
[11:51] Uni Ninetails: sooner rather than later quell the FUD pls.
[11:51] Jack Linden: Haha Tal.. they are fewer. ![]()
[11:51] Talarus Luan: Suuuurre they are. ![]()
[11:51] Talarus Luan: They aren’t gone, though. ![]()
[11:51] stormi Capalini: lol
[11:51] Equinox Pinion: btw…is your new CFO a bot? He is not visible anywhere, didn’t introduce himself and never made a post and even the post last night about the the L$ was made not by him. Do you still have a human CFO?
[11:52] Whitestag Gothly: LOL
[11:52] Whitestag Gothly feels chest pains!
[11:52] Whitestag Gothly dies!
[11:52] Lorac Cleanslate: lol
[11:52] Jack Linden: Equinox, very much so!
[11:52] Lorac Cleanslate: omg
[11:52] Lady Sakai: Humans are highly overrated Equi
[11:53] Marianne McCann: Jack – a friend of mine pointed otu a number of “ruth’s retreat” style regions – Inner Core, Rocky Mountains, Black Hole, etc. Quite a stack of them on the map. What are those? “stored” regions for something?
[11:53] Lorac Cleanslate: are they Lady
[11:53] Equinox Pinion: lol lady
[11:53] Talarus Luan: I have lightning breath.. stand aside! CLEAR! *zaps Whitestag*
[11:53] Serra Anansi bites her tongue and doesnt comment about CEO’s not EVER being “human”
[11:53] Marianne McCann: ‘s a huge number of ‘em
[11:53] Lady Sakai: In the LL world they are, Lorac ![]()
[11:53] Driftwood Miles: they are bargain basement stocking fillers Marianne ![]()
[11:53] Equinox Pinion: lol
[11:53] Whitestag Gothly: Talarus while your close over there have jack sell me 10 HS at 50 teir : P
[11:53] Driftwood Miles: but you HAVE to believe in Santa
[11:54] Jack Linden: hehe Whitestag
[11:54] Marianne McCann: Oh, I believe. And I’ll take two!
[11:54] Driftwood Miles: lol
[11:54] Lorac Cleanslate: well count me in
[11:54] Lady Sakai: do you a deal drift, soon at M is history Ill start beliving in Santa.. deal ?
[11:54] Talarus Luan: I think that would require more than a little electroshock therapy. <.<
[11:54] Jack Linden: Marianne, I’m not 100% sure. They may be for testing
[11:55] Driftwood Miles: :O
[11:55] Uni Ninetails: isnt there a staging area for new sims to be “preped” for final placement?
[11:55] Equinox Pinion: Jack can you promise us not to make any new bulk purchase agreement with that one estaet will we can do it all?
[11:55] Lorac Cleanslate: Santa died along time ago
[11:55] Charlene Trudeau: I”m sorry to be rude, Jack, but have to go handle a land issue. Thank you for taking time with us, as always
[11:55] Jack Linden: Oh, and one more point re. the wkipages. the next article they are working on adding will be specifically about how to migrate from a Linden Home to buying an estate or mainland parcel.
[11:55] Jack Linden: Just fyi
[11:55] Luci Koenkamp: Jack, how about giving more sqm for the same tier price on the mainland? Wouldn´t that take care of some problems there?
[11:55] Uni Ninetails: Santas not dead, he got a shave and found religion
[11:56] Driftwood Miles: deal Lady ![]()
[11:56] gwampa Lomu: Jack, will you be at the SLCC convention in Boston?
[11:56] Lorac Cleanslate: land of the lagg that free home you cant move
[11:56] Lady Sakai: I thought he started a health care chain, Uni
[11:56] Serra Anansi: Jack, do you mean buying a “estate parcel” or an “estate”?
[11:56] Lorac Cleanslate: so dont see the excentive for peeps
[11:56] Uni Ninetails: XD
[11:56] Whitestag Gothly: Huh moat out of noobville head for the junkyaard jack, wheres my 95 HSs : P
[11:56] Jack Linden: Luci, there’s such a fine balance there that it is difficult. If we increase tier meterage on Mainland then we start to cut into the estates business.
[11:56] Joshe Darkstone: Jack what happened yesterday on the Lindex? were any stops initiated while the price ran up to 319L per usd?
[11:56] stormi Capalini: The last thing we need is inexperienced estate owners Jack
[11:56] Lorac Cleanslate: lol UNI you too funny
[11:57] Talarus Luan: I’m a newbie estate owner. <.<
[11:57] stormi Capalini: I hope you are doing well during all this, Talarus
[11:57] Jack Linden: Joshe, we covered that earlier so you’ll see that in the chatlogs (hopefully someone will post them). We have breakers in place but we didn’t trip them
[11:57] Talarus Luan: Dunno yet. I’m new ![]()
[11:57] Marianne McCann: Time f’r me t’head out. Have fun, all!
[11:57] stormi Capalini grins
[11:57] Marianne McCann: Bye Bye!!
[11:57] Jack Linden: The market corrected itself basically.
[11:57] Uni Ninetails: bai!
[11:57] Joshe Darkstone: oOo. not sure you ewant to host an SLCC convention in boston. Thats kinda close to where I live. I could actually show up…
[11:57] Whitestag Gothly: yea why does linden charge and sell above market driving it further up 3 days in a row?
[11:58] Alexxa Despres: Jack..do you think Linden Labs is in a good place right now?
[11:58] Dennis Lagan: Jack, what happens to you when the 30 day evaluation period on the brighton office is over? will you move to america, or log in from home, or be affected as well?
[11:58] Sonya Haight: so the breakers aren’t set to trip on their own at a certain rate?
[11:58] Luci Koenkamp: is there another way to solve the problem, unless you dumb 10000 noobs there?
[11:58] Jack Linden: Whitestag, we were not active in thr market, and weren’t yesterday. Any buys / sells you saw were from residents
[11:59] Whitestag Gothly: the buy and sell to LL went up 3 days in a row
[11:59] Jack Linden: okay folks, I have to run.. need to grab lunch before the next meetings. Thank you all for coming along.. hope you’re finding this useful
